Splash Pad to be built in Central Park opening in 2011
|
Liz Allan, and Maria McRae were pleased to announce the addition of a new splash
pad water park to Celebration Park. This new infrastructure represents
an investment in our community of approximately $100K.
The next steps are for the community to provide your feedback about
elements and colour, at an upcoming meeting that Maria will host in May or
June. City staff will then tender the job. The expected construction
date is late August or early September aiming for a 2011 opening.
Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback over the years about
park priorities.

Laurentian Construction Begins
|
At City Council this Wednesday, under
consent, Council unanimously approved the lifting of the “H” (holding
zone) as it pertains to the rezoning of Laurentian Place. This was the
final administrative step prior to finalizing the Site Plan. Again,
barring any unforeseen issues, Phase 1 construction
is set to begin in the next 2 weeks.
In response to an inquiry about the City of Ottawa’s Noise
By-law regarding construction, construction is permitted from
Monday to Saturday from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. On Sunday and any
statutory or public holiday, construction activities cannot start before
9:00 a.m. and must conclude by 10:00 p.m. This by-law
applies to all construction.
Once construction commences, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to directly contact Aaron Clodd, SmartCentres, at 613-721-2200, ext. 230 or by e-mail at aclodd@smartcentres.com. SmartCentres will regularly update Maria's office regarding any concerns that are raised. Mr. Clodd will respond to construction related-issues only and is not in a position to comment on tenancy agreements, future development, etc. |

Changes to the Board of the Community Association - Effective May 1, 2009
|
Hello Everybody!
It is with some sadness that I am writing today to tell you of a
number of changes to the Board of the Community Association. Paul
Hobkirk, who over the last year has contributed so much to the
community, not the least of which was the design of our new website,
has moved to another part of the city. Grace Dimion, who two years ago
joined the Association at a time when its survival was in doubt, has
also had to leave the Board due to new professional commitments.
Finally, at the end of this month, I too will be resigning as
President in order to address a number of professional and personal
commitments that are now making it impossible for me to continue to
fulfill my responsibilities to the community. I also hope to focus
whatever time I have for volunteer activities towards addressing
challenges associated with the private roads.
I've known for some months that I would have to leave but I wanted
first to make sure that a succession plan was in place and that the
timing was right before announcing anything. Subsequently the
transition will be smooth and seamless - effective May 1, the new
board will be:
President: Liz Allan
Vice President: Merriel Petry
Treasurer and Community Coordinator: Laurie Lyons
Secretary: Klaus Kollenburg
Please join me in welcoming this new board and assist them however you
can - their capabilities and commitment are top-notch and we are very
lucky to have them. Nevertheless, while a small board can do a great
deal, it is undeniable that the more people there are on the Board the
more effective and sustainable it will be. If you like having this
discussion board, if you like the garage sale, the family fun and play
day, the ice rink, or the spring clean-up, or even if you just want to
meet people, please consider joining the Board or volunteering to
assist in other ways. It and the Association are a vital part of our
community's infrastructure - without it, a lot of things we today can
take for granted simply would not happen or would be much more
difficult to organize.
Well, that's about it. Before I go, I wish to extend a deep and
heartfelt thanks to both Grace and Paul for all their efforts -
Central Park is truly better for their commitment and hard work. Best
wishes to you all and I look forward to the community’s future
activities and endeavours.
Sincerely,
Stuart Sykes
President
Ottawa's Central Park Community Association
